Property right families, extensions, subsequent applications

To make the nationalization/regionalization of an IP as easy as possible, you simply can create family members for existing IP rights from within an existing file.

This way, all essential information (e.g. priority) is copied and transferred to the family file and a family member is added to the graphical representation. If a family member is created in this way, a country code is added to the file number (e.g. File123 File123-DE for a German family member).

The available selection depends on the type of family member from which the branching takes place. Under your German patent application, you will therefore not find the selection of the "regional phase", since this does not exist here.

When creating family files, the country code does not have to be added manually to the file number. This is done automatically by the system.

It does not matter whether it is the standard or an individualized file number.

To create a family member, click on “extend family" in the record view. (1)
