In Continux, three terms are used that sound similar but describe different functions:
Person Category
The person category is a master data entry and is created under Settings ➔ Enumerations ➔ Person Categories. It forms the basis for a person type to be selectable when creating a person.
The person category is selected from a drop-down menu when creating a person. The available entries are derived from the stored person categories. A person type can be assigned but is not mandatory.
Contact Type
The contact type describes the role of a person in a specific file. It is assigned in the file mask under "Further Application Data" or "Miscellaneous" in the "Type" field, regardless of whether a person category has been assigned to the person or not. The available entries in the drop-down must first be created under Settings ➔ Enumerations ➔ Contact Type.
The following overview shows the difference at a glance:
| Term | Where to create? | Where to use? |
|---|---|---|
| Person Category | Settings ➔ Enumerations ➔ Person Categories | Selected as person type when creating a person Drop-down when creating a person |
| Contact Type | Settings ➔ Enumerations ➔ Contact Type | Drop-down "Type" in the file mask under "Further Application Data" or "Miscellaneous" |
