Automatic status changes in Continux – overview and triggering fields

In Continux, many status values change automatically depending on the maintenance of specific date fields. This functionality supports an accurate and time-based representation of the procedural status.

This user manual article provides an overview of which fields trigger which status changes, when the change takes effect and which specific features may apply depending on the type of intellectual property right.

Basic principles

An automatic status change occurs only if the designated date field has been completed.
The status changes only when the calendar date entered in the field is reached (not before).
If the date lies in the future or is missing, the previous status remains unchanged.
The status logic is independent of the type of intellectual property right; however, the actual field names may vary.

Overview of status values and triggering fields (extract)

Rejected	Rejection date	Status changes as soon as the rejection date entered is reached. Note: If the date remains entered in this field, the status remains “Rejected” even in the event of subsequent developments such as a successful appeal or grant.

Specific feature following a subsequent change after rejection

If an intellectual property right is initially rejected and subsequently proceeds following a successful opposition or appeal, the status remains “Rejected” as long as the rejection date remains entered in the relevant date field.

For Continux to determine the current procedural status based on subsequent events, the no longer current rejection date must be removed from the field. The previous rejection may be documented in the notes. The subsequent date fields, for example for the intended grant or grant, can then determine the current status.

Data maintenance notes

If a required date is missing, the status remains unchanged.
Dates should be checked carefully to avoid incorrect status changes.
Manual corrections are possible in exceptional cases but require the appropriate permissions.
